My Writing Process

What do you do when you write?  Each person has a different way of getting their thoughts down.   Some type it up on typewriters, and others at the computer.  This is how it works for me.

1. Writing

I've tried many different ways of writing, but recently I've settled on writing everything out long hand.  I don't know why but it's easier for me to get the words out onto the paper. I vastly prefer to write out everything on paper first then type it up as the first stage of editing.  It forces me to do an extra edit.

Another advantage is that if I get an idea I can write it down right away, and not have to wait until I can get to a computer. At the end of the writing after I have finished writing I scan it into the computer, because not only I have it backed up but it makes the next stage much easier.

2. Editing

I do all my editing on the computer as I can turn on the track changes and look at what I have changed in between different versions of the story.  As I mentioned before I have my scanned PDF files pulled up on one side of the computer and the open document on the other and I can just type the rough draft into the document, then if I have a better idea I can leave the rough draft and do a rewrite.'

This is my writing process so far.  Maybe as I get more experience with writing and more familiar with my process I'll revisit this.
